Location notes
The location itself is the northern throat of Tyne Yard (DB Schenker, formerly EWS). It is to the side of the East Coast main line, south of Newcastle. Just east of a small village called Lamesley.
Railway type and traffic
ECML passenger traffic (East Coast, Cross Country, FirstTranspennine, occasional Northern Rail) and quite a few freight trains - esp. DB Schenker. Plus stock that is stabled at Tyne Yard. Even the occasional steam loco for refilling.
Environment
It is a semi rural location. The area to the side is open fields.
No crime worries. There might be a few horses nearby, but the land to the sides is useless for agriculture following flooding and persistent water logging.

Road directions
Take the A1 to Team Valley use the southern roundabout, but instead of going into Team Valley head south to Lamesley instead. The vantage point is reached by turning left at the following roundabout. There are alternative vantage points along the North-South road.
Alternatively, take any other route to Lamesley and then head east out of the village towards Harlow Green.

Parking
Usually OK to park on road - but not on the bridge itself. The best place is where the road rises from the floodplain to the west.
Public transport
There are a few buses to Lamesley village. Alternatively, get a bus to Team Valley, get off at Sainsbury's (Team Valley) and walk towards Lamesley. Cross the roundabout and follow the route of the main road as above.

Photographic notes
It is fairly easy for photography as the valley has some pretty wide angles. It depends on whether the subject is standing in the yard or moving. Northbound is easier for ECML trains. You might need a long lens to see some of the long-term visitors to the yard.
