Location notes
Gaymers Lane is situated on the Ipswich to Felixstowe line and is located in the village of Trimley St. Mary, Suffolk. The nearest town being Felixstowe. Felixstowe has Britain's largest container port and is located on a peninsula between the Rivers Deben and Orwell, and the North Sea. The area is generally quite flat with not many hills.
Railway type and traffic
Abellio Greater Anglia operate an hourly service bewteen Ipswich and Felixstowe, usually operated by a Class 153 or 156, sometimes a Class 170.
Many freight services to and from the nearby port of Felixstowe, operated by Class 66's from Freightliner, DB Schenker and First GBRF as well as Freightliners class 70s.

Environment
The location is set on the edge of the village with an original gate house still present. It is located at a foot crossing and the south side has the best view. There are open fields to this side and the cranes from the port of Felixstowe can be seen towering over the tree tops.
Road directions
From the A14, Ipswich, eastbound over The Orwell Bridge, leave the A14 at junction 59:
At the roundabout take the 3rd exit (signposted Trimley Villages) Entering Trimley. Then you encounter another roundabout, take the 1st exit which is a left hand turn.
Continue along this road over the next mini roundabout and you will soon reach the left turn for the station take this and then the next right onto 'The Avenue'. Continue along this road and at the end junction turn left then immediately right on to 'Stennetts Close'. Follow this road a short distance and you will see some garages. Park considerately before the garages and walk through them. The location is on the other side.

Parking
There are plenty of places to park on the residential streets, just leave space for the locals.
Public transport
Alight at Trimley railway station, exit the station and follow the road to where there are some flats, turn right, take the second left which is 'The Avenue', (sign is not visible but when turned into it is on your left). Follow the road all the way up, you will then reach a council estate, continue through here , then you will come to the end of the road and turn left and right straight away, where you will come into Stennets Close, follow the road around until you reach the end of it, where you will reach some garages, you will then encounter the old gate house, and you know your there.
Alternatively: First Bus Routes 75/76/76A/77/77A pass through Trimley and start at the Ipswich 'Old Cattle Market' bus station.

Amenities
The village has a fish n chip shop, open daily, a post office and a newsagents, also a few Pubs in the area.
Accommodation
There are no hotels in Trimley. But there are a range of B&B's in Felixstowe.

Photographic notes
In the morning, it is best to shoot Felixstowe bound trains when the light is correct. At midday, the sun is side on so not really suitable. From 15:00, Ipswich bound trains can be photographed until around 2 hours before sunset until the shadows on the tree's by the line start to interfere.
For videoing, shooting towards Felixstowe is a really long view and just as good the other way. Plenty of whistle boards in both directions to give you the heads up! Workings heading towards Ipswich will be accelerating up to line speed if they have come from the north dock.
Although the Trimley RTT page shows all workings on the branch you can simply list workings in one direction only by looking at:
