New Mobile Site
We have just launched a new mobile version of this site - m.trainspots. This page will use your smart device's GPS to loctate you and guide you to locations that are close to your present location.
Location notes
A quiet road bridge in a country setting over the GWML between Exeter and Dawlish, it also overlooks the site of the former Exminster station.
Railway type and traffic
Mostly FGW HSTs, XC Voyagers and FGW DMUs, XC HSTs turn up a couple of times a day as well.
Freight is limited, but there is a weekly Colas Rail log train, which goes down empty on a Tuesday, and returns on a Wednesday.
Environment
The bridge is quiet, but rather narrow, and to avoid getting in the way of the (admittedly infrequent) traffic, you should stay to the sides.
You are only likely to meet dog walkers and birdwatchers (the area is well known for it's rare birds), and the odd walker.
Road directions
From Exeter follow A379 South, until you come to a roundabout, turn right at the signposts for The Swans Nest pub and Toby's reclamation yard, carry on straight until you pass over the bridge, there will be a tight narrow turn on your right, take this turn, then you'll find yourself in the parking area I mention below.
Do NOT go into Exminster village, just keep to the A379.

Parking
Ample parking in the aforementioned gravelly area about 3 minutes walk from the bridge.
A very safe area, although the general lack of people mean you should take care, and not leave valuables on display, as it is hard to see your car from the bridge.

Amenities
The Swans Nest pub is right next to the bridge, Exminster village has a Tesco Express, and a Post Office.
Accommodation
Plenty of accommodating in Exeter and Dawlish.

Photographic notes
I've only really used this location in the early evening (when it's generally fine), so can't comment to far on this.
Both sides of the bridge provide good pictures, although looking south is a more interesting view due to having the former Exminster station in view.
Generally excellent for videographers, any traffic would be an annoyance due to it's proximity however.
