New Mobile Site
We have just launched a new mobile version of this site - m.trainspots. This page will use your smart device's GPS to loctate you and guide you to locations that are close to your present location.
Location notes
Wrexham is a fairly large town on the English-Welsh border south of Chester. The station is located on the Chester to Shrewsbury line and also has a platform on the Wrexham Central to Bidston route.
Railway type and traffic
There is an approximately hourly service between Chester and Shrewsbury, usually provided by class 158 units, though class 175s are starting to appear. The Bidston trains are usually class 153s.
There is some freight, principally consisting of Timber trains heading from the Chester direction to Chirk, Steel trains from Shotten on the Bidston line to South Wales, and the occasional freight service from Warrington to Shotton. these trains run round in the loop to the south of the station.
Environment
The station is busy when a train is due but quiet outside these times. The road bridge is busy with traffic as the station is located close to the Town Centre. Do not wear a Chester Football Kit here!
Road directions
Wrexham is just off the A483 which links Chester in the north to the A5 at Chirk. The station is located just off the A541 on the western side of the Town Centre.

Photographic notes
The road bridge outside the station gives the best vantage point for trains entering from the south, also giving a view of the station buildings. As the line runs roughly north-south, the best location is probably at the end of the platforms, especially in the afternoon for south-bound trains. The Bidston to Wrexham Central line runs from a separate platform on the west side of the station.
